I appreciate the views to the side that gives the sightseeing feel rather than just a focus on the road. Thanks for sharing. Was on this highway in 2014, July, going the other way on a southwest trip with my two brothers.

This is my hometown. I grew up here as a child until 9th grade and we moved to durango. I used to live by myself in 10th 11th and 12th grades in the summertime pay my own rent and bills and work. My dad still lived in Durango but would come up everyday to work 5 days a week. My brother and I used to sell rocks my dad would bring us out of the mine to the tourists in our little red wagon when the train came to town when my brother and I were in first and second grade.

Hi John, me and my girlfriend were up there around 2003, and she bought a few rocks from a young kid, near where the train comes in, I believe. Was that you by any chance? My dad was born there in 1917. Him and his dad lived up in Eureka. His dad was the mine engineer at the Sunnyside mine. I go visit my dad up at the Hillside Cemetery every few years.

The animatronics look good. Love the eye movement. Were they brand new in 2015? And I love how there are so many animal statues the kids can climb on and touch. That helps keep younger children engaged until they are old enough to just enjoy watching the animals. Oh, and that carousel is gorgeous!

I just did this drive. This video does not capture the height and sides of the road that drop 500 ft. There are little signs that say 500 ft just in case you forget. Lol. I wasn't prepared for that drive on the way up but was on the way down. Just make sure you have some coffee for focus. Lol.
